A Springfield area teen was killed in a three-vehicle crash on Monday after he tried to pass a truck.

  • Logan Voorhees, 18, was driving the Honda Civic north on Ohio 41.
  • Voorhees' vehicle struck a Honda CRV traveling south driven by Linda Stafford, 66, of Troy.
  • Voorhees died at the scene and was not wearing a safety belt, according to state troopers.

The crash on Ohio 41 near Ohio 235 was reported just after 5 a.m., according to state troopers.

Voorhees was trying to pass a Ford truck, driven by Jackie Kibler, 55, of Springfield, when he crashed.

Stafford was flown to Miami Valley Hospital. Kibler was taken by squad to the Dayton hospital.

Voorhees was also found to be the at-fault driver during the investigation, according to Lt. Brian Aller, of the Springfield Ohio State Highway Patrol post.

Speeding and passing on a hill, a non-passing zone, are factors in the crash, Aller said.

Each driver was the sole occupant in each vehicle.

Kibler and Stafford were wearing safety belts, according to state troopers.
