As the deputy stopped the driver, the man hit a tree and then took off at speeds of between 5 mph and 15 mph, Sgt, Ronnie Lemen with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office said.
During the slow-speed pursuit, the driver hit a utility pole and eventually came to a stop in a parking lot off South Church Street, where officers surrounded the vehicle and took the man into custody.
“It was a lengthy investigation,” Lemen said. “There were a lot of different scenes that needed cleaned up.”
Lemen said the driver was believed to have been under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.
The man’s name was not immediately available.
