Miamisburg mom still recording those who drive around stopped school buses

The Ring doorbell camera at Joanna Bentley's home in Miamisburg is working overtime these days, still recording scofflaws who continue to drive around stopped school buses.

She gives the videos to Miamisburg School District resource officers as well as to the district's transportation department.

"Within the last three weeks we've had four incidents where cars are not stopping for the school bus again at our bus stop here," Bentley told News Center 7's Monica Castro on Wednesday night.

She began her campaign, of sorts, in November 2018 and some changes have been triggered because of her diligence.

The district last April installed camera on five of its buses that record and photograph license plates of drivers who don't stop for a stopped school bus.

"We don't want anyone to get hit obviously," said Miamisburg School Resource Officer Ryan Copsey said.

State Rep. Niraj Antani, R-Miamisburg, is involved as well. He's a signatory on legislation that would protect children from drivers who don't stop for a stopped bus. The bill has passed in the Senate, but the House has yet to take it up for debate.

Bentley, meanwhile, said she will continue to record traffic in front of her home and hopes her doorbell camera never records a tragedy involving a school bus and a law-breaking driver.
