NOW PLAYING ABOVE

The non-profit, Miami Valley Community Action Partnership, is looking for people to apply for its Summer Crisis Program and beat the summer heat.

The program, which started July 1, could allow approved people to get up to $500 to help pay their electric bill or to get a free air conditioning unit.

“If they have the documentation to show that they need cooling no matter what age they are as long as we have the documentation we can provide help as well,” Erin Jeffries Chief, operating officer at Miami Valley Community Action Partnership, said.

Monique Walker, Director of Energy Assistance Programs, said after the applicant’s application is approved, an AC unit can be sent directly to their home.

Applicants need one of the following to be approved:

  • A household member has an illness that would benefit from cooling assistance, verified by physician documentation;
  • A household member is sixty (60) years or older;
  • A household member has been diagnosed with COVID-19;
  • The household is served by a non-regulated utility with a disconnect notice.

Applications can be submitted online or in person at the Miami Valley Community Action Partnership office at 719 S Main Street in Dayton.

The program runs through Sept. 30.
