Local sheep farmer accused of child sex crimes

MIAMI TWP., Greene County — A sheep farmer is accused of child sex crimes sheriff’s deputies said allegedly happened to a teen boy who worked for him, according to court records.

William Rife, 71, is charged with two counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor and is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges Monday.

Rife is accused of touching the boy sexually while he was working for Rife at his Clifton Road sheep farm, according to court records.

The alleged crimes involving the 15-year-old are said to have happened in Rife’s barn and home, court records showed.

“There were multiple acts of sexual conduct during the time period of January to March 2018,” a sheriff’s office detective wrote in their court filing.

According to court records, a “controlled call” was conducted between the victim and Rife last week.

“During that call, they discussed the sexual activity that had occurred before (the victim) left his employment,” the detective wrote in a statement of facts.  “Rife agreed to meet (the victim) later in the evening so that more sexual conduct would occur.”

The prosecutor’s office asked for Rife’s bond to be set at $25,000 and noted the case will be presented to a Greene County grand jury.

Rife was not in custody Monday.
