Family and friends of a Piqua infant gathered Sunday to pray for his recovery.
Three-week-old Marley Hennon is still recovering from a broken skull and ribs at Dayton Children’s Hospital.
His father Brent Hennon II, who was his mom’s boyfriend, has been charged with felonious assault. Police say he caused the injuries to his son.
Marley’s mother Destiney Abbott said she was shocked that her now ex-boyfriend was arrested for hurting their baby.
News Center 7's James Buechele was at the vigil Sunday night with what families are saying about the incident.
People gathered at the municipal building praying for Marley Hennon, and the family says they want tonight to be about hoping for a recovery.
“There’s only one thing at this point that any of us can do and that’s pray to keep the boys in their prayer, keep them getting better and it’s working, we’re seeing improvement in Marley in ways that we didn’t know,” said Eve Silvers, Marley’s grandmother.
Family members say Marley was able to breathe on his own when he was taken off a ventilator and his feeding tube was also removed, but he may need it again.
Brent Hennon’s sister, Stormy Littleton, said Brent is innocent and she thinks the investigation needs to continue. She also said Brent did tell her he has health issues and blacked out one night while holding the baby, which may have led to the injuries.
“In your heart you feel that. That that’s not something he could do considering I have three kids and he’s watched all three of my kids by himself and none of them have ever come to me and told me that he hurt me or done this to me,” said Littleton.
Hennon faces two to eight years in prison and $15,000 in fines if he’s convicted. He pleaded not guilty.
