Local law enforcement agencies react to death of Cincinnati-area officer killed in crash

MIAMI VALLEY — Law enforcement agencies across the Miami Valley are offering their condolences after a Cincinnati-area police officer was one of two people killed in a crash early Friday morning.

Springfield Twp. Officer Tim Unwin, a two-year veteran of the department, was identified as the officer killed in the line of duty, Springfield Twp. Police Chief Rick Bley said during a news conference Friday morning.

A second driver, identified as William Dunson, 50, of Cincinnati, was also killed in the crash, according to police and the coroner’s office.

Dayton Police offered its condolences Friday on social media.

“The entire Dayton Police Department sends our prayers and condolences to the family of Officer Tim Unwin as well as the Springfield Township Police Department,” the department wrote on its Facebook page.

Kettering Police asked the community to “keep his family, the Springfield Twp. PD, and the community in your thoughts and prayers.”

“We would like to extend our deepest, heartfelt condolences to the Springfield Twp. (OH) Police Department for their loss,” it wrote on social media. “Off. Tim Unwin was killed in the line duty in a crash early this morning.

The Miami Township Police Department offered its condolences Friday evening.

“We would like to extend our condolences to Springfield Township Police Officer Unwin’s family, fellow officers and the community he served as well as the Dunson family,” it wrote on social media.

The Middletown Police also expressed its condolences on social media on Friday.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Police Officer Tim Unwin of the Springfield Township Police Department and to the friends and family of the civilian who died early this morning in a crash. Godspeed....”
