KETTERING — The Dor-Wood Optimist Club started a program more than a decade ago known as the “Avenue of Flags’” program and participation has grown by the hundreds.

The club raises money by selling flags to anyone who signs up and in the past decade the effort has grown from 100 flags to more than 1,400.
Flags are usually flown on each patriotic holiday, but recently with everything that communities are going through with the coronavirus pandemic the club decided to keep the flags up.

One resident says his entire street has flags at each home.
“Yes, what’s going on in our nation, I think it is very very important to show our support for the United States of America and the flag. I think it’s a positive reflection of that," he said.

We are working to learning more about the cost of the program, where the money goes and how long the flags will stay up.
