While en route to the scene, crews called for the Washington Township Fire Department and the Moraine Fire Department to respond to the scene.
Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy fire coming from the second-story window, Jirka said.
Firefighters were able to get inside quickly to extinguish the flames and stop the fire from spreading into the attic.
News Center 7 obtained a 911 call where the caller told a dispatcher that they had to jump out of a window to escape the flames.
Jirka confirmed that crews found one person who jumped out of the second-story window.
Medics took this person to a local hospital, but it is unclear how serious their injuries are.
Jirka said a second person was hospitalized for possible breathing difficulties.
“I have gotten some reports that it’s possible somebody went in a personal vehicle to the hospital, but I can’t confirm or deny that,” Jirka added.
People in eight apartments, four on the second floor and four on the first floor, were displaced Saturday night, according to Jirka.
It’s unclear exactly how many people were displaced.
Jirka said the fire damage is contained to one apartment on the second floor, but there is damage from the overhaul, smoke, and water throughout the building.
The cause of this fire remains under investigation.
News Center 7 will continue to update this story.
