Video shows sparks fly as bird causes power outage in Clark County

UPDATE @ 1:41 p.m.:

Video shared with WHIO shortly after power outages were reported in Enon shows sparks shooting from power lines and electric equipment in the area of the Speedway station.

Ohio Edison said a bird flew into a substation in Clark County, causing an issue, which resulted in a transformer blowing in downtown Enon.

Some power lines also were damaged during the incident, Ohio Edison said.

Power from outages in Clark and Montgomery County have been restored to most customers.

At the peak of the outages, over 12,000 power customers in both counties were without electricity.

UPDATE @ 10:15 a.m.: 

Power has been restored to most in Clark and Montgomery counties following two large power outages Friday morning.

At 10:15 a.m., only 43 DP&L customers are without power, down from the 12,000 first reported around 8 a.m.

In Clark County, 200 Ohio Edison outages remain.

UPDATE @ 9:47 a.m.:

Approximately 1,272 Dayton Power & Light customers are still without power in Montgomery County.

Around 1,237 of those customers are in the Kettering and Oakwood area, according to an online outage map.

In Clark County, 770 Ohio Edison customers are out of power, with 229 in Enon and 535 in Mad River Township.

UPDATE @ 9:20 a.m.: 

A transmission line at a DP&L substation on Dorothy Lane in Kettering went out, causing the power outage that initially knocked out power to 12,000 people in Montgomery County, the City of Kettering said in a Facebook post.

Outages have fallen to around 4,600 DP&L customers without power, according to an online outage map.

In Clark County, an Ohio Edison outage continues to disrupt service to 770 people, according to their online outage map.

UPDATE @ 9 a.m.: 

Two separate outages in Clark and Montgomery counties have knocked out power to thousands of people Friday morning.

In Montgomery County, downed wires in the area of Far Hills Avenue and East Dorothy Lane, downed wires knocked out power to 12,000 people in Montgomery County, a DP&L representative told this news outlet.

Current outages at 9 a.m. are reported around 9,300, according to an online outage map.

In Clark County, an Ohio Edison outage knocked out power to over 750 people. Greenon Local Schools cancelled classes today at their junior/senior high school and Enon Primary because the buildings do not have power, the district said in a Facebook post.

The source of the outage in Clark County was not immediately known.

Over 9,500 DP&L customers are without power in Montgomery County Friday morning according to an online outage map.

Outages were reported around 8:15 a.m. in Kettering and Oakwood, however the source of the outage was not immediately known.
