Huge DP&L transformer to be moved Sunday

Dayton Power and Light will move an oversized transformer from Beavercreek to Sidney Sunday, a delayed move after last week's flooded roadways.

The transfer of the 400,000-pound substation transformer will occupy two lanes and is expected to take several hours.

Troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol's Xenia Post will escort the load starting at 7:30 a.m. on Dayton-Xenia Road.

Several roads will experience traffic delays during the transfer.

The route includes North Fairfield Road, Interstate 675, Ohio 235, Ohio 706 and Ohio 40, according to a DP&L release.

The transformer is expected to provide more reliable service to customers in the area, a company spokesman said.

DP&L originally planned to move the transformer Dec. 22, but delayed it after heavy rains caused flooding in the area.
