TROTWOOD — The Foodbank is hosting additional food distributions to help communities in the Miami Valley.
>>Foodbank hosting drive-thru food distribution in Trotwood Thursday
There will be one in Trotwood today from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. at the 2200 block of Shiloh Springs Road at the old Salem Mall location.
The Foodbank says it is aimed at serving those in Trotwood to alleviate food insecurity.
News Center 7′s Xavier Hershovitz says this comes at a time when the Foodbank is seeing an increased need.
The Foodbank held its regular food distribution in Dayton on Wednesday. Images from Sky 7 showed cars stretched down the street for blocks.

Hershovitz says last year they served around 300 people at a distribution and that has increased to about 450.
“We are seeing higher rates of food insecurity really across the board,” said Amber Wright, Development and Marketing Coordinator, The Foodbank. “And now we’re seeing people struggling with persistent inflation and runaway food prices. They’re just devastating people’s household budgets.”
She also says they are always looking for volunteers and donations.

Hershovitz says Salem Mall will be filled with people who have never been to a food distribution by the Foodbank before.
They said in 2022, each person they served visited them an average of four times a year. This year, that number is up to nearly six visits a year.
Watson says between inflation, high grocery prices, and other life emergencies the need for our community is great and it’s bringing in families that have never been to the Foodbank before.
“We are seeing a lot of new families coming through and utilizing our services,” she said. “And so, distributions like these, I think are oftentimes a great introduction to some of the other services that we offer, like our mobile pantries and our weekly drive-thru. And so, when people are driving by in the area and they see this line, a lot of times they’re like, ‘Oh, let me go check it out.’”
