CAMDEN — A group of Preble County first responders were honored for their part in saving a woman’s life whose car crashed into a pond in April.

On April 30 around 3 a.m. Camden Somers-Township Fire & EMS along with Preble County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to the area of Eaton Oxford Road and State Route 177 for a car in a pond, according to Camden Somers-Township Fire & EMS.

Those who responded were told by dispatchers the car may be occupied.

When crews arrived on the scene they found two people inside the car.

The man and woman inside the car were taken to a trauma center in Hamilton.

The man was later pronounced dead but the woman has since made a full recovery, according to Camden Somers-Township Fire.

On June 14, all first responders who helped respond were recognized by Camden Somers-Township Fire Chief Josh Forrer with a Life Saving Award.

“I can’t tell you how proud and honored I am to get to work with such an amazing group of individuals, not only here at Camden, but the entire group of Individuals who selflessly rescued a life that morning,” Forrer said in a social media post.
