1 dead, another in critical condition after car crashes into pond in Preble Co.

ISRAEL TOWNSHIP — One person is dead and another is in critical condition after a car crashed into a pond in Preble County early Sunday.

Just before 3 a.m., the Preble County Sherriff’s Office was called to a car in a pond on State Route 177, according to a media release.

When deputies arrived on scene they found two people inside the car and under water.

Deputies along with fire crews pulled the people out of the car and began CPR.

An initial investigation found that the car was traveling northwest on SR-177 when it traveled off the side of the roadway. It then traveled several hundred feet through a field before coming to rest in a farm pond.

The two people were taken to Ft. Hamilton Hospital in Hamilton.

The male driver was later pronounced dead and the female passenger remains in critical condition, according to a media release.

The identities of both passengers are pending notification of the family, the sheriff’s office said.

Since the car was submerged in water multiple agencies were called to the scene including crews from Camden, Medflight, College Corner, Butler County, Oxford, Gasper Township, and Monroe.
