NEW CARLISLE — UPDATE @7:50 a.m.
A New Carlisle home built in the 19th century is a total loss after a fire this morning.
Fire officials said fire started in the garage and spread quickly to the house in 600 block of West Jefferson Street. The fire was able to spread quickly because of the house’s age, according to fire officials.
As crews were inside the house fighting the blaze, the fire spread to the second floor. Officials blew a horn to get all firefighters out, as they were worried about the second floor collapsing.
Two people and two dogs escaped. No one was injured.
UPDATE @ 6:30 a.m.:
Firefighters are still working to put out the blaze. The entire back of the house appears to be on fire, and a car in the garage seemed to have experienced severe fire damage.

Firefighter from multiple jurisdictions are battling a fully involved house fire in the 600 block of West Jefferson Street in New Carlisle early Thursday morning.
Crews were dispatched to the two-story structure just before 5 a.m. Flames were shooting from the roof and windows of the house, and the metal roof was glowing red as a result of the blaze.
The fire could be seen for miles away.
At about 5:40 a.m. a loud alarm sounded, alerting the firefighters inside the house to get out because it was getting dangerous.
