Firefighters deal with frozen hydrant while battling Riverside house fire

RIVERSIDE — The cold temperatures gave some challenges to firefighters while battling a house fire in Riverside early Tuesday morning.

Firefighters responded just before 12:10 a.m. to the 2400 block of Forest Home Avenue on reports of a house fire.

Riverside Battalion Chief Scott Wallace told News Center 7 they are sure the fire came from a wood-burning stove.

Photos from the scene show that the house sustained damage from the attic side of the house.

Wallace a man, a woman, and two children got out in time. He said a frozen hydrant gave them some issues.

“We had a hydrant right there, we went over, and it was frozen. We had trouble connecting it. We found another one. Everybody’s got to deal with right now, especially in these conditions.”

The fire remains under investigation.
