New details arise about suspect who fled fatal Dayton crash Sunday; police still searching for him

DAYTON — UPDATE @ 5:15 p.m.:

Dayton police are looking for the suspect who fled the scene of a fatal crash Sunday evening near the intersection of North Gettysburg and Freudenberger avenues.

Preliminary investigations indicate the suspect drove a short distance after the crash and parked at Clark Gas Station where he proceeded to get out and hide behind the gas station building, according to a release.

Not long after he hid behind the building, the suspect reappeared and got into what police describe as a silver four door sedan with damage on the front fender.

The sedan reportedly drove northbound on North Gettysburg Avenue.

Investigators are asking that anyone who witnessed the initial crash or can identify the suspect or getaway vehicle to please contact Detective Timothy Rizer at 937-333-1142 or Miami Valley Crime Stoppers at 937-222-7867.

A Fairborn woman was killed in a four-vehicle crash on North Gettysburg Avenue Sunday night and police are looking for one of the drivers who fled the scene.

Tasha Watkins, 35, was killed in the crash, which was reported near the intersection of North Gettysburg and Freudenberger avenues around 6:45 p.m.

A preliminary investigation found a vehicle traveling north on North Gettysburg Avenue crashed into the back of another vehicle, sending the second vehicle into the southbound lanes, according to Dayton police. The second vehicle then crashed into two others traveling south.

Watkins was the driver of the second vehicle and she died from her injuries after being transported to Miami Valley Hospital.

The driver of the fourth vehicle, who was not identified, was also transported to an area hospital, however their identity and condition were not released. The driver of the third vehicle, also not identified, was not injured.

The first vehicle continued traveling north for about a block, before the driver jumped out and fled the scene, police said.

A Dayton police report shows that police are investigating the crash as a possible crime with a charge of aggravated vehicular homicide being possibly considered for the crash.

No arrests have been made.
