TRENTON, Butler County — UPDATE @ 8:40 p.m.: The massive power outage in the St. Clair Twp. area of Butler County has ended, except for about 70 outages in Trenton, according to the Duke Energy online outage map.
The number of outages at the height of the problem reached well over 5,000 and fell to an estimated 2,656 just before 8 p.m., according to the web site.
There has been no word from Duke Energy officials as to what might have caused the outages.
UPDATE @ 6:35 p.m.: Duke Energy crews are trying to determine the cause of the outage, spokeswoman Sally Thelen said.
FIRST REPORT
The Duke Energy online outage map is showing more than 5,000 outages in an area stretching from just northeast of New Miami to Trenton in Butler County.
According to notations on the web page, outages were first reported just after 5:30 p.m. and the utility is estimating that electric service could be restored by about 8 p.m.
We’re checking with Duke and attempting to talk with Duke officials to see if crews have pinpointed the reason for the outage.
