Driver seriously injured after multi-vehicle crash in Middletown

MIDDLETOWN — The Lebanon Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that injured multiple people Tuesday morning in Middletown.

The crash happened at the intersection of Roosevelt Boulevard & Breiel Boulevard and was reported around 9:15 a.m., OSP said in a release.

According to OSP, a Chevy Trailblazer was eastbound on Roosevelt Blvd. and failed to stop at a red light at Breiel Blvd. A Ford Mustang and a 1996 Dodge Caravan were northbound on Breiel Boulevard.

The Trailblazer then entered the intersection on a red light and struck the Ford Mustang and the Dodge Caravan.

The impact caused the 1996 Dodge Caravan to strike a 2019 Dodge Caravan. The 2019 Dodge Caravan was westbound on Roosevelt Blvd. stopped in the left turn lane for southbound Breiel Blvd. when it was struck.

The Trailblazer then overturned onto its side and struck a traffic light support pole.

The driver of the Trailblazer fled the scene on foot and was apprehended a short time later by the Middletown Police Department, OSP said.

The driver of the 1996 Dodge Caravan suffered serious injuries, according to OSP. She was transported by Middletown EMS to Atrium Medical Center and was later flown by medical helicopter to Miami Valley Hospital.

The driver of the Trailblazer suffered minor injuries and was transported by Middletown EMS to Atrium Medical Center.

The driver of the Ford Mustang suffered minor injuries and was not transported.

The driver of the 2019 Dodge Caravan also suffered minor injuries and was not transported.

Troopers were assisted on scene by the Middletown Police Department.

The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending at this time.
