Driver crashes vehicle, then flees; Springfield police chase suspect

SPRINGFIELD — A driver crashed their vehicle then fled the scene, causing Springfield officers to chase the suspect late Wednesday morning.

Springfield police and fire were dispatched to the intersection of East High Street and South Greenmount Avenue at around 10:50 a.m. on reports of a crash with injuries, the city’s dispatch confirmed.

When officers arrived, one of the drivers involved in the crash fled the scene, prompting officers to pursue the suspect, dispatch said.

Medics were dispatched to the scene to provide treatment to a man who reported facial injuries, according to initial traffic over emergency scanners.

Responding officers chased the suspect vehicle down East High Street, which then became a foot pursuit once the suspect exited their vehicle, emergency scanners reported.

It is currently unknown if officers were able to apprehend the suspect.

Springfield police led the investigation into the crash and pursuit.
