MONTGOMERY COUNTY — Ohio dog owners only have until tomorrow to purchase a dog license before prices double.

The deadline to purchase a 2022 dog license is Jan. 31, Montgomery County Auditor Karl Keith said.

In Montgomery County, the cost of a license is $20 for spayed or neutered dogs and $24 for dogs that have not been altered. This price will double after Jan. 31.

Under Ohio law, all dogs older than three months must be licensed, and those licenses must be renewed annually.

Licenses are also a way to ensure your pet is reunited with you when they are found.

The Montgomery County Animal Resource center helped turn more than 500 dogs in 2021 because of the use of dog licenses, Montgomery County said in a release.

Dog licenses can be purchased in three ways:

  • On Montgomery County’s website
  • By mailing in an application
  • In-person at 19 stores and agencies throughout Montgomery County including the County Administration Building and the Animal Resource Center
