RIVERSIDE — A woman is in the hospital and a dog is dead after a fire in Riverside on Saturday.
Firefighters were called out to the 5600 block of Sharp Road around 10:11 a.m., after a passerby reported seeing smoke come from a home, according to Riverside Fire Chief Dan Stitzel.

When fire crews arrived on scene, they searched the house and found a female in the kitchen of the house.
“It does appear that she might have been attempting to get out of the house,” Stitzel said.
The woman was taken to Miami Valley Hospital. Sunday morning fire officials said the woman is in critical condition according to her family.
A dead dog was also found inside the home.

The fire and smoke caused extensive damage to the inside of the home, according to Stitzel.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
