Deputies responded to the 2200 block of Ohio 47 East after receiving a report of dead cattle around 3 p.m. New Year’s Day.

“It was found that the property had 21 feeder calves that had not been fed or properly taken care of at the time,” said Shelby County Sheriff John Lenhart. “It was also found that there were 13 deceased feeder calves on the property, along with other various livestock not being taken care of.”

The 21 calves still alive were taken to a different location, where they will be housed and taken care of until the case is finished, Lenhart said.
