Help Clear the Shelters at Humane Society, Animal Resource Center adoption events

You can help Clear the Shelters with the Humane Society of Greater Dayton and Montgomery County Animal Resource Center today at two separate adoption events.

Montgomery County Animal Resource Center

This event will be held from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the shelter, 6790 Webster Street.

The ARC will waive all adoption fees, and will include spay/neuter, initial vaccines, first-year dog license, microchipping, rabies vaccination, and heartworm testing.

ARC Shelter Manager, Amy Blackaby says they’ll have more dogs available later today.

“We have approximately 40 dogs available right now,” she said. “We actually have a few dogs becoming available at 4 o’clock today.”

Blackaby also says the largest benefit is connecting a dog to a home.

“The shelter is, quite frankly, no place for animals. It increases their stress levels, it’s a lot of fear of the unknown, not to mention that the potential for disease transmission goes up when you’re around so many other dogs,” she said. “So, really that home environment is the best place for animals and that’s what we want to connect people to is the ability to bring that dog home and offer it that perfect environment.”

This Name Your Own Price event will be held at the main shelter, 1661 Nicholas Road from 12 to 7 p.m. and at the MeowZa Cat Boutique inside the Dayton Mall from noon to 6 p.m.

All animals will be available for a price of your choosing, but cannot be less than 50 percent off the regular adoption costs. Standard adoption procedures apply and applications must be approved before you can adopt.

On site, there will be dogs, cats, rabbits and more looking for homes. Adopters will also receive goodies from Hill’s Science Diet and a free pet bed or quilt.

“During the summer months we are inundated with animals trying to find their forever homes,” Humane Society President and CEO Brian Weltge said. “This exciting adoption event will help us clear the shelters and find forever homes for pets in need. This also means we can welcome more pets into our facility and in turn help impact the lives of additional animals in our community.”

Anyone interested in adopting must bring:

  • Your most up-to-date veterinarian records for all pets in your home
  • If you rent, a copy of your lease showing that you're permitted to have pets in your home
  • A filled out application (optional), which can be found online at www.hsdatyon.org/adopt.
