Clark County Dog Shelter at full capacity, urging adoption

CLARK COUNTY — The Clark County Dog Shelter is asking the community for help in adopting animals.

According to the shelter’s dog warden Sandi Click, it’s running at full capacity, and some dogs are having to share kennels.

Click says there are about 40 dogs up for adoption, and despite some being rescued, more are brought in every day.

"There's more dogs coming in than we have going out so we're very crowded right now. I consider us to be at capacity right now," Click told News Center 7's James Buechele.

Last week, Click urged the community for food donations on the shelter’s Facebook page, and received an overwhelming response.

“We were down to just a few bags of food, we were concerned,” Click told Buechele.  “We had over 1200 pounds of food delivered in one day last week."

Despite the generosity, space is still an issue.

Dogs are sharing kennels, which is not ideal according to Click.

“We can double up dogs but we really don't like to do that unless the dogs know each other."

The shelter has reduced prices and other donors have offered to sponsor fees in hopes of getting more people to adopt.

As for the influx in animals? Click says she’s still trying to figure that out.

"People suggested it's because of the beginning of the school year and normally there is a little upsurge then, but not like this. I don't know what's going on."
