PIQUA — Part of Miami County is pushing several redevelopment projects.

Leaders told News Center 7′s Mason Fletcher they are excited about the growth after seeing some businesses close.

In Piqua, Lock 9 Park has been a hit for the city and officials said that’s just the start of their development.

They’re planning even more right next to it, bringing something they weren’t able to just a few months ago.

“We’re working on what we call “Canalley.” It’s a one-block section with some potential restaurants and nightlife,” Paul Oberdorfer, city manager said.

Oberdorfer said they’re using 2025 to finish the design phase and will start construction in 2026.

He said he is looking forward to bringing something new.

“There’s been many years of things just kind of running the way that they have been. But we’re in a spot where we have potential businesses coming into town,” Oberdorfer said.

The project is the headline for several more on the city’s radar.

Oberdorfer said his goal is to make Downtown Piqua an experience.

“People like to have outdoor seating and just have an environment that’s conducive to a younger crowd that may be different than what downtown presents right now,” he said.

These projects weren’t possible for the city just a month ago.

They recently received the city version of a high credit score and now have access to more money.
