Celina barn destroyed in fire

Crews will spend hours more fighting a massive fire at a barn full of hay in Celina.

Fire Chief Douglas Wolters said the hay was stacked 20 feet high inside the large structure. The roof had partially collapsed and flames were shooting through when his firefighters arrived on the scene just before midnight.

He said they will have to call in an excavator to spread out the hay so they can extinguish all the fire. Wolters said they will remain on the scene on Miller Road until about noon.

Celina got mutual aid from several nearby departments to truck in water, he said.

No one was hurt and no animals were inside.

Wolters said crews also worked to ensure the flames did not spread to the house or any other nearby barns.

"The blessing in the whole thing was that the animals were all in the rear barn," he said.
