Broken string lights? Local organizations collecting unwanted strands for recycling

WARREN COUNTY — The Warren County Solid Waste Management District and the Five Rivers MetroParks have set up barrels to collect unwanted light strands.

The Warren County collection barrels are at two locations: the City Building at 320 W. Central Ave and the Springboro Performing Arts Center at 115 Wright Station Way. The barrels will be available until Jan. 31.

The Five Rivers MetroParks recycling locations will be available until Feb. 1. The MetroParks collection barrels are at +++ locations: Carriage Hill MetroPark at 7800 E. Shull Rd, Cox Arboretum MetroPark at 6733 Springboro Pike, Eastwood MetroPark (lake side) at 1401 Harshman Rd, Englewood MetroPark at 4361 W. National Rd, Germantown MetroPark at 6910 Boomershine Rd, Possum Creek MetroPark at 4790 Frytown Rd, Sugarcreek MetroPark at 4178 Conference Rd, Wegerzyn Gardens MetroPark 1301 E. Siebenthaler Ave, and Adventure Central at Wesleyan MetroPark at 2222 N James H McGee Blvd.

“Recycling holiday lights is a win-win for people and the planet,” said MetroParks Sustainability Manager Kelly Bohrer. “Recycling lights reduces landfill waste, keeps the lights from entangling wildlife and prevents adding toxins to our soil and water. It also allows us to reuse valuable materials (copper) and supports the circular economy.”
