UPDATE @ 8:22 a.m. June 8
South Alex Road has reopened after repairs were made because of a water main break that caused part of the road to sink in near Orchard Hill Drive.
UPDATE @ 9:13 p.m.: The repair on the broken West Carrollton water main will continue at least into early Wednesday, the city's water distribution supervisor said.
At least 10 homes are affected by the problem and water going to those homes will have to be boiled once service is restored, the supervisor, Dewayne Jarvis, said.
The boil advisory for those residences will be in effect for 24 hours after service is restored, he said.
Jarvis said there was a pipe failure of some kind and the water washed out all of the support underneath the asphalt. That caused the street to buckle.
According to West Carrollton police, South Alex Road remains shut down between Fame Road and Orchard Hill Drive while the repair continues.
