DAYTON — Amid questions and some concerns over the new Omicron variant, AAA said it could impact how much you pay for gas.
Crude oil prices have dropped more than $10 in the past week since news about Omicron first broke.
Kara Hitchens, AAA Spokesperson, said, “it’s really hard to say with certainty what will happen.”

That’s because American’s are still learning about the new variant and its impact.
“Now that we know there’s another variant out there and that there are more cases in the United States, that’s going to make things a lot more unpredictable,” Hitchens said.
If demand for gas were to go down over the next few weeks, so could the prices of gas.
“We project that people, as cases spread, that people will start to a lot more self-regulating and combining trips,” Hitchens said.

AAA reports the national average price for a gallon of gas has dropped about a penny in the last week to $3.39.
“As crude oil prices come down then that drives gas prices down as well,” Hitchens said.
Experts said the effects will not be immediate, but we could see the impact by the time Christmas travel rolls around.
