Man arrested after crashing car, running from scene in Springfield; 1 taken to hospital

SPRINGFIELD — One person was taken into custody after crashing their car and running from the scene in Springfield early Friday.

Crews were called to an accident on York Street and Summer Street around 5:30 a.m., according to Springfield Police Department.

One person fled from the scene of the crash and was taken into custody, according to police.

Jail records show that Richard Rogers was arrested Friday at the intersection of Summer Street and South York Street by Springfield PD.

At least one person was also taken to the hospital from the scene, but it is not known if it was Rogers or another person involved in the crash.

Video from the scene shows two cars with heavy damage, one with damage to the front of the car and one with damage to the driver’s side.

Rogers is facing charges including obstructing official business, resisting arrest, criminal damaging, failure to appear, failure to stop at a stop sign, and fictitious plates.

His next day in court is July 11.
