HARRISON TWP., Preble County — As high winds pushed through the Miami Valley Thursday, an old barn near Lewisburg sustained significant damage and resulted in an emergency demolition.

The barn was located on Prices Creek Road, and no one was home when the first section fell.
“I saw the front part of the barn was down and I saw cones up that the county had put up and I thought uh-oh, I’m in trouble here. So they came and they said that they would push it over to keep anybody from getting hurt with it coming down,” said Irene Vore, the property owner.
During the high winds, a small portion of the barn blew over, blowing debris into the roadway, and prompting a response from county officials. After the initial damage suffered, the remaining section of the barn was torn down, to prevent any drivers from being injured by falling debris.
The barn was built in the 1840′s and has been home to Vore for more than 50 years. The barn was not used for livestock, but held many memories for her, as her husband once used the barn to do a lot of demolition.
“When it first started coming down, I walked through the barn, I shed a few tears because I loved this barn. I used to climb a hay mile and run around all over the place and I really liked it,” said Vore.
There are currently no plans for the barn to be rebuilt.
