DAYTON — With milder temperatures coming up later this week, many may be putting up their holiday decorations. But there are things you need to keep in mind to make sure your display isn’t the talk of the town for the wrong reasons.
News Center 7′ s Kayla McDermott spoke with Ohio Electric Services about what fire safety precautions to take this holiday season.

“Everybody likes the show Holiday Vacation and you know where Clark Griswold plugs in all these holiday lights and that’s pretty much a how not to on holiday lighting,” said Rick Smythe, OES president.
Avoid plugging all your seasonal decorations into the same plug or having a hot electrical cord next to your dry Christmas tree. Loose or hot wires can also cause a fire, especially next to a dry Christmas tree.
According to the National Fire Protection Association between 2015 and 2019 fire departments in the US responded to almost 800 home fires that began with holiday decorations per year – causing on average one death, 26 injuries, and $13 million in direct property damage annually
OES suggests you invest in installing outlets inside and outside your home, they cost far less than the damages done to your house from a fire.
