Elderly Yellow Springs man killed in Ohio 72 crash

The man who died in a crash today on Ohio 72 has been identified as John E. Ford, 85, of Yellow Springs, according to the Springfield post of the Ohio Highway Patrol.

At approximately 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, a 2013 Mazda 5 driven by Ford was traveling east on High Street when he attempted to make a left turn onto Ohio 72.

His vehicle was struck in the driver’s side by a 2005 Mercury Monterey traveling south and driven by Jennifer M. Donovan, 32, of Xenia.

Ford was pronounced dead at the scene.

Donovan was taken to Greene Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.

Ohio 72 has reopened after a fatal crash today.

A witness told authorities that one vehicle pulled out from High Street and into the path of a southbound van on Ohio 72, according to the trooper on scene from the Ohio State Highway Patrol Springfield Post.

UPDATE @ 1:55 p.m.

One person is dead and another injured in a crash involving two vehicles that has Ohio 72 blocked in both directions at High Street.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Clark County Sheriff’s Office are on scene investigating. A white sheet has been placed over one person.

Emergency dispatchers tell us another person in the fatal crash was transported to the hospital. That person’s condition was not immediately available.

According to a Shawna Hendrickson, who lives nearby, she heard the crash in her home and went over to the wreckage. She tried to help one of the drivers who was unconscious, but realized there was nothing she could do.

It’s a horrible day. It’s a sad day. I really wish people would slow down through here,” Hendrickson said.
