UPDATE @ 8:55 p.m.: Police caught the man who nearly smacked into the Chipotle Mexican Grill with his pickup truck.
Springboro Sgt. Aaron Zimmaro said the man, believed to be in his 40s and from Huber Heights, purchased food and was getting into a Ford F250 pickup truck when it apparently got away from him.
Zimmaro said police suspect the man was possibly inebriated or intoxicated on drugs because he was partially in the truck when it nearly hit an Ohio Highway Patrol trooper who was walking toward the restaurant to get something to eat.
Trees and shrubbery alongside the building apparently stopped the truck, Zimmaro said.
The man apparently ran into a wooded area behind the restaurant, but police tracked him down minutes later. The sergeant said the man will be taken to the Warren County Jail.
FIRST REPORT
Police are looking for the person who drove a Ford F250 pickup truck into shrubbery right outside a Chipotle Mexican Grill on Greenwood Lane, right off state Route 73.
The accident was reported about 7:40 p.m.
Jake Shuler, service manager for the restaurant, said the truck doesn’t appear to have caused any damage to anything but the shrubs and trees.
A medic unit was dispatched to the scene, but Shuler said he understands there have been no injuries. The restaurant remains open for customers, he said.
A dispatcher with the Ohio Highway Patrol reports that a trooper from the Lebanon post was sent to help Springboro police in searching the area.
