Pickup driver jailed for OVI after head-on crash in Darke County

BRADFORD — A pickup truck driver remains in jail after deputies say drunken driving led to a head-on crash.

Crews were called around 11:15 p.m. Saturday to the 8300 block of Ohio 185. Preliminary investigation shows a blue 2008 Ford F-250 driven by 38-year-old Nevin T. Benedict of Versailles was headed north when he veered off the right side of the road and struck multiple mailboxes. He then over-corrected and struck a white 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche driven by 42-year-old Terry J. Meade of Bradford, according to the Darke County Sheriff’s Office.

Meade was taken by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, where he was listed in stable condition.

Benedict was treated at the scene and arrested on suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated. He is being held on cash-only bond of $2,025 in the Darke County Jail awaiting arraignment, online jail records show.
