UPDATE @ 11:37 a.m. (Aug. 5):
A Dayton police report indicates the valid CCW permit holder in this case was a 75-year-old man.
The dog was shot once above the eye with a pistol, and died at the scene, according to police.
The elderly man told police he was outside in his driveway near his vehicle, when he saw the pitbull was loose. He said once the pitbull got eyes on the elderly man the dog charged at him angrily.
UPDATE @ 11:50 a.m. (Aug. 4):
A man shot and killed a pitbull after he said the animal charged him in an alley behind his home.
“This dog came around from my neighbor’s garage,” the man, who asked not to be identified, told our reporters on the scene. “He had broken loose and he charged me.”
The man said he was a CCW permit holder.
We’re working to get more information from police on the investigation and whether any charges will be filed.
INITIAL REPORT:
A pitbull has been shot and killed at a Dayton home this morning.
Police and the Montgomery County Animal Resource Center were on the scene in the 1200 block of Seneca Drive.
