No charges have been filed nearly one month after Klonda Richey was mauled to death by neighbor's dogs outside of her house at 31 E. Bruce Ave.
Tuesday, Montgomery County Prosecutor Mathias Heck Jr. cited a lack of witnesses and a lack of information from the owner of the dogs.
Richey, 57, was attacked Feb. 7. A neighbor saw her body in the snow and called 911. Dayton police officers who arrived at the scene said they were forced to shoot and kill the dogs.
The mixed-mastiff dogs that attacked Richey were registered to Julie Custer, Richey's neighbor at 35 E. Bruce Ave.
After the attack, police took Custer, 25, and the owner of Custer's home, 28-year-old Andrew Nason, into custody while executing a search warrant.
They were detained in the Montgomery County Jail pending possible charges of reckless homicide. They were later released without charges being filed.
Dayton detectives met with county prosecutors about the case on Monday, Heck said. He noted that the detectives did not request any charges.
"They are going to have to finish their investigation to see if there are going to be any charges sought or not," Heck said.
