Greenville business owner pleads guilty to tax charges

GREENVILLE — A Greenville business owned pleaded guilty to not paying employment taxes and admitted to filing false tax returns, according to the Department of Justice.

A U.S. District judge scheduled Gail Cooper’s sentencing for Aug. 2.

The 64-year-old woman is facing up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

She reportedly admitted that her actions resulted in the government losing more than $500,000 and agreed to pay restitution.

From 2007 to 2015, Cooper was the only owner of Greenville Architectural Glass and was responsible for its finances.

While GAG withheld taxes from employees’ wages, Cooper never paid them to the IRS and didn’t file quarterly returns for the nearly two years, according to the DOJ.

She also reportedly did not pay the IRS unemployment taxes.

Cooper admitted in court documents that she willfully failed to file income tax returns from 2011 to 2014, even though he said a professional tax return preparer to complete the returns, according to the DOJ.
