Man jailed as suspect in Dayton carjacking

DAYTON — UPDATE @ noon (Oct. 10)

Decenta Demarco Brown, 25, was arrested in the 1500 block of Smithville Road Sunday night and is a suspect in a carjacking that happened on James H. McGee Boulevard in Dayton.

Brown is being held in the Montgomery County Jail on suspicion of receiving stolen property and failure to comply with an order from police. He is due to appear for an arraignment Tuesday in Dayton Municipal Court.

A pursuit following an armed carjacking Sunday night reached speeds around 100 mph and led police to recover the car and arrest at least one suspect.

Two gunman robbed a man of his car around 9:30 p.m. in the 1700 block of North James H. McGee Boulevard in Dayton. Lt. Mark Ponichtera said officers from the city’s West Patrol Division spotted that vehicle on the west side and initiated the pursuit, which went through west Dayton and to the east side of Dayton. The pursuit lasted only about 3 to 4 minutes.

The Audi was found in the 1500 block of Emmons Avenue, and several people jumped out and took off on foot, Ponichtera said, and several witnesses in the area helped point police in the right direction of the suspects. A K-9 track led officers to one suspect who was taken into custody on suspicion of receiving stolen property. The suspect, in his 20s, is considered a person of interest for aggravated robbery and fleeing and eluding, Ponichtera said. Police were still looking for at least one or two other individuals involved.

No weapons were recovered, and police were still investigating the incident.

UPDATE @ 10:50 p.m. (Oct. 9)

An Audi stolen in a carjacking tonight was later found abandoned in the 1500 block of Emmon Street in Dayton’s east side.

The suspects took off on foot, likely headed in separate directions. One suspect was found in the 1000 block of Smithville Road and police, along with K-9 officers, are searching the area for at least two suspects, according to the Montgomery County Regional Dispatch Center.

Police are searching for two gunman who took a car tonight in Dayton.

The carjacking was reported around 9:30 p.m. in the 1700 block of North James H. McGhee Boulevard. The vehicle is described as a silver or gray Audi.

The two male suspects were both armed with semiautomatic weapons, according to police.

Dayton officers lost sight of the vehicle after it got off east U.S. 35 headed south on Smithville Road. Dayton police alerted area departments to be on the lookout for the stolen car.
