The Darke County dad found guilty of involuntary manslaughter for giving his 16-month-old daughter an over-the-counter sleep-aid has been sentenced to three years in prison.
Scott Webber, 29, of Greenville, is receiving credit for 45 days served in county jail, plus five years probation upon release. Judge Jonathan Hein heard the case in the Darke County Common Pleas Court in Greenville.
Webber refused to take a plea deal and faced 14 years in prison.
His wife, Lauren Jones, 29, pleaded guilty to one count of endangering children, a felony of the third degree, in the Darke County Common Pleas Court. The state dismissed an indicted count of involuntary manslaughter, a felony of the first degree, in exchange for her change of plea and testimony against Webber. She was previously sentenced to 90 days in the Darke County jail, five years probation, serve 100 hours of community service, get her GED and a job.
The couple's daughter was found dead in her crib, tangled in a scarf used as a blanket in February 2013. The autopsy revealed she died of asphyxiation and she had been given ZzzQuil, which is not intended for children under 12 years old.
