3 bank robberies may be linked

UPDATE @ 7:56 a.m. (Dec. 12):

Oakwood police said the man who robbed the LCNB National Bank on Saturday was inside the Fifth Third Bank on Far Hills Avenue in the city shortly before the robbery.

According to police, the suspect did not commit any crime in the Fifth Third Bank, however surveillance images captured the man leaving the bank before he headed to the LCNB National Bank.

Officers suspect the man accused of robbing two other banks in Miami Twp. and Kettering.

UPDATE @ 1:05 p.m. (Dec. 11):

Oakwood police believe the man who robbed the LCNB National Bank on Saturday, may be the same person responsible for robberies in Kettering and Miami Twp.

Kettering Police responded to a robbery at the River Valley Credit Union on Dec. 22 and Miami Twp. Police responded to a robbery at the Civista Bank on Springboro Pike on Jan. 2.

In all three cases the suspect appears to have a similar description, according to Oakwood Capt. Alan Hill.

Anyone with information on any of these cases is asked to contact police.

UPDATE @ 8:30 p.m. (Dec. 9): A bank robber made off with cash just before noon today from LCNB National Bank, but not before a dye pack exploded behind another local bank.

The suspect entered the bank at 11:50 a.m. at 2705 Far Hills Ave. and gave the teller a note demanding money, Oakwood Lt. Keith Benson said.

He didn’t display a weapon, but implied he had one, because he had an object protruding from inside his coat pocket, the lieutenant said.

There were no customers in the bank and the suspect ran off on Far Hills Avenue and went behind the nearby Fifth Third Bank, where the dye pack exploded in the parking lot. The suspect was not apprehended.

He is described as a 6-foot-tall black man between 40 and 50 years old with graying facial hear wearing gold wire rimmed glasses and a black jacket and hat, both possibly leather.

Police are working with bank security to review surveillance images and to determine how much cash was taken.

FIRST REPORT

Police in Oakwood are responding to a bank robbery at the LCNB National Bank.

The robbery at the bank, 2705 Far Hills Ave., was reported at approximately 11:50 a.m.

The robber, described as wearing sunglasses and dark leather clothing, reportedly ran away going south from the bank and crossed East Dorothy Lane.

Several police units responded to the bank and the surrounding area in an effort to catch the robber.
