1 dead after car runs into Ohio River after police chase

RISING SUN, Ind. — A man is dead after driving his vehicle into the Ohio River, according to our news partners, WCPO in Cincinnati.

Indiana State Police told WCPO Ohio County deputies and Rising Sun police were searching for a vehicle that left a crash.

An unknown time later, officers were able to locate the vehicle, at which time the driver ran from them. Roughly a mile later, the driver drove onto a boat ramp and into the river, according to WCPO.

Officers attempted to free a man trapped in his vehicle, diving in immediately after he went in. WCPO reports officers did make contact with the man in the water but would not leave the vehicle.

Around 4:45 p.m. WCPO reported that a vehicle with heavy front-end damage had been pulled out of the Ohio River, and a Ohio Coroner’s office is on the scene.

Additional information is unknown at this time as it remains an open investigation.
