WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE — After a decline in COVID-19 cases across Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and the state, the base has downgraded the Health Protection Condition to the second lowest level.

>>Ohio’s COVID-19 health restrictions ending Wednesday

As of Wednesday, WPAFB moved to Health Protection Condition Alpha, based on the recent decline in cases across the state and base, a WPAFB spokesperson said in a media release.

“For the month of May, the installation averaged less than one case per day; down from three cases per day in April. Approximately 63 percent of the Active Duty population and 43 percent of the base population have received at least one COVID vaccination,” the spokesperson said.

Alpha, or limited, is the second lowest level in the military’s Health Protection Measures, just ahead of “routine.” Alpha status requires base personnel to monitor symptoms and prepare to diagnose, isolate, and report new cases.

Just over two weeks ago, the base, in alignment with Department of Defense guidelines, removed the mask mandate for fully vaccinated people while inside or outside.

Wednesday’s announcement comes on the day Ohio removed all pandemic-related health measures.

On the heels of the announcement, base commander Co. Patrick Miller will hold a base-wide town hall Wednesday afternoon to discuss what WPAFB’s transition will look like, including what precautions will be in place during the workforce’s transition.

We’ll update this story as new details become available.
