Sidney police chase of wanted subjects reached 90 mph

Two individuals wanted on arrest warrants in Miami County led Sidney police and multiple agencies on a 90-mph chase Friday morning through several cities and miles of county road.

Sidney police released additional information in Friday morning’s pursuit across several jurisdictions.

Around 9:25 a.m., Sidney police observed two wanted subjects — identified as Michael Cotterman and Jody Napier-Bunnell — in the area of Hilltop Apartments. Both subjects were wanted out of Miami County on outstanding warrants.

After a traffic stop was initiated the suspects fled in their vehicle east on State Route 47. Speeds in excess of 90 mph were reached in this pursuit, according to a police release.

When the suspect vehicle attempted to turn onto Sidney-Freyburg Road the vehicle crashed into a guardrail, as cruiser camera footage shows.

The male driver of the suspect vehicle then reportedly reversed and rammed into two Sidney police cruisers, causing damaging and disabling those two police vehicles, according to police.

A third officer picked up the pursuit, as well as units from Shelby County Sheriff’s Office and Ohio Highway Patrol.

The chase continued through miles of county road before continuing onto County Road 25A and then Interstate 75 South before exiting at State Route 36, police said.

The chase then landed in downtown Piqua. During this period, the suspect vehicle struck at least one parked vehicle and two houses.

The pursuit ended when the suspect struck a tree near Concord Elementary School in Troy.

Also assisting were units from the Miami County Sheriff's Department, Miami County Parks Department and Troy and Piqua police.

The two suspects are being checked at Wilson Memorial Hospital before being booked into Shelby County Jail.

UPDATE @ 11:04 a.m.

Police officials confirm now just two people were in the vehicle and taken into custody.

A traffic stop was initiated by Sidney police for the male driver on an outstanding warrant.

No officers or individuals were injured in this incident, but two Sidney police cruisers were damaged when the suspect vehicle fled.

UPDATE @ 10:16 a.m.

At least three people are in custody following this pursuit. The Ohio State Highway Patrol is handling this investigation.

Police from multiple agencies engaged in a pursuit of a vehicle in Shelby and Miami counties that has ended in a crash at Ohio 718 and Washington Road on the western edge of Troy.

Dispatchers said the incident began with a traffic stop in Sidney, which the driver fled from.

Emergency scanners indicated the suspect vehicle was initially being pursued on Interstate 75 southbound, but got off at an exit into to city of Piqua.

Reports indicate the vehicle was driving on rims alone before it crashed.
