September 2018 by the numbers: A warm and wet month

September 2018 will go into the record books as a warm and wet month.

The remnants of Tropical Storm Gordon brought widespread rain, helping to increase totals, Storm Center 7 Meteorologist Kirstie Zontini said.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • 12: September was the 12th warmest on record, with 70.2 degrees the average temperature. This year, September was almost 5 degrees above normal.
  • 5: There were five 90-degree days for the month. Dayton has now seen 23 90-degree days for the year.
  • 4: This was Dayton's 4th wettest September on record. More than 6.7 inches of rain fell, with most of wet weather due to remnants of Gordon.
  • 3: Sept. 3 was the warmest day of the month, hitting 92 degrees.
  • 2: Two days we saw more than 1 inch of rain in 24 hours: Sept. 8 and Sept. 24.
  • 1: Dayton had one official heat wave (3 or more consecutive days in the 90s or above) in the beginning of the month.

October is looking to start off with warmer than normal weather as well.

Long-range models point to the first two weeks at or above normal when it comes to temperatures. This time of year the afternoon should be around 70 degrees.
