A delayed fall color season has given the Miami Valley an extra week to enjoy some great fall color! ODNR has mentioned our mild temperatures in October have contributed to peak color change occurring the first week in November which is a little late for us. This is a nice treat especially this weekend when quiet and sunny weather will prevail!
ODNR has reported in their November 4 Color Report that all the state parks and nature preserves in the Miami Valley are now showing peak fall colors.
>>Trick-or-Treat Forecast: When you need to plan for rain
As our daylight hours dwindle and the colder air of fall has finally arrived, chemical changes in the trees is also leading to a layer of cell development in the abscission zone of the leaf and stem to develop. This layer of cells essentially cuts the leave off from the tree and is the reason leaves eventually drop. A little wind and rain is usually all it takes from the leaves to fall quickly. Quiet weather November 5-9 gives you a great opportunity to get into nature and enjoy the colors of fall while they last!
