Wright-Patterson AFB plans gate closure Friday, impacting afternoon commute

WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE — A planned political rally in Fairborn will force a gate closure at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base at the end of the workday Friday, according to social media messages posted by a base representative.

The base will close Gate 1A, near South Broad Street in Fairborn, starting at 5 p.m. due to the planned rally which starts at 6 p.m., the spokesperson said.

“This gate adjustment is being done to redirect traffic around the event and mitigate traffic delays/congestion during planned/unplanned road closures which may impact local residents and individuals traveling home through the city,” the base spokesperson said in the social media post.

People leaving the base Friday after the gate’s closure are asked to use either Gate 26A, 12A, or 16A. Those trying to get onto base property after 5 p.m. Friday are asked to use Gate 12A.

Gate 1A will return to its normal hours Saturday.

“This is expected to have minimal impact on the base workforce as a result of the installation’s telework posture and time of closure,” the spokesperson said.
