Red Scare Starts TBT with a Blowout Win

COLUMBUS — The Red Scare began 2021 The Basketball Tournament (TBT) with an 88-44 win over BC-Vahakni City at the Covelli Center in the First Round of the TBT Columbus Regional. Red Scare is made up mostly of former University of Dayton men’s basketball players.

Former Ohio State player Trevor Thompson led Red Scare with 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Jordan Sibert scored 17 points, including five three-pointers. Former Flyer Brandon Spearman came off the bench to add 13 points and Darrell Davis had nine.

Vahakni City led 5-4 with 7:11 left in the first quarter but Sibert made his first three-pointer of the game to put Red Scare ahead for good, 7-5. It ignited a 12-2 scoring run to open the lead to 16-7. Red Scare led, 44-21, at halftime.

Sibert and Trey Landers each made a three-pointer in the second half to extend the advantage to 50-28 and Thompson scored four straight points to expand it further to 54-33. Red Scare also got contributions from former Flyers Devon Scott and Brandon Spearman. They combined to score the last 13 points of the third quarter as they led, 67-38.

Red Scare went into the Elam Ending leading, 79-42. Darrell Davis scored five of Red Scare’s next seven points to lead, 86-42. Kendall Pollard’s jumper sealed the game.

Red Scare will play Sunday afternoon at 2 pm against Category 5 in the Second Round of Columbus TBT Regional.
