Hartsock: Centerville Elks look to bounce back from disappointing 2016

CENTERVILLE — The Centerville Elks have had only four head football coaches since 1973 so you’ll excuse Brent Ullery if he’s a bit of a traditionalist. The Elks newest coach is a former player and the son of former head coach Ron Ullery.

“I like to honor the tradition,” Brent Ullery said. “We talk to our guys about the tradition of this program and the tradition of this field and everything that’s gone into it and that’s a big coaching point for me.”

Ullery hopes to turn around a program coming off a 5-5 season. His seniors are anxious to prove last season was the exception rather than the rule.

“5-5 is not anywhere close to what Centerville football is,” receiver Trey King said. “Centerville football is 7-3, 8-2, 9-1, 10-0 and making the playoffs and doing well in the playoffs.”

The Elks open at Fairfield and then play at Lakota West before finally playing at home in Week 3 against Pickerington North.
